Ghaziabad: A 15-year-old boy was killed and his 28-year-old cousin sustained severe injuries after the scooter on which they were travelling to Meerut was hit by an unknown vehicle in Muradnagar. The
accident happened around 6am on Tuesday.
The teen who died in the accident was identified as Aditya, a resident of Jahangirpuri in Delhi. The injured, Aman Kumar, is being treated at a private hospital in Modinagar.
Aman took Aditya to the hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.
The incident was then reported to the police by the hospital.
Mukesh Solanki, SHO of Muradnagar, said that the victims were headed for Chota Haridwar when they were hit by the vehicle.
“Their scooter was hit by an unknown speeding vehicle. We have not found any eyewitnesses. We are going over some CCTV footage, but so far, the accused or the vehicle remain unidentified,” the SHO said, adding that three teams have been formed to apprehend the accused.
The victim’s family have not filed a complaint with the police yet and have refused to get a postmortem done, police said.
A similar accident happened on June 6 in which two people on a motorcycle were hit by a truck. Gaurav (24), a resident of Delhi and Ram Kumar (55), a resident of Muradnagar, died in the accident.
On June 6, a truck mowed down a biker and then a pedestrian in Muradnagar. It first hit the biker, who had been waiting by the road for his brother-in-law, and then crushed a guard who was walking home under its wheels.
A total of 266 road accidents were reported in Ghaziabad between Jan and March this year, while 230 were recorded last year. The fatality rate went up by 36% within the said period this year, with 105 reported deaths and 190 injuries. Last year, 77 people died in road accidents in the district while 162 were injured.
