ERODE: Unhappy with the marriage of their daughter, a couple, along with their minor son, attacked their son-in-law with a sickle near Thalavadi in Erode district on Sunday night. The victim is said to be stable. Both the groom and bride are from the same community.

R Vignesh Karthik, 29, of Thiginarai hamlet in the Thalavadi taluk, married Jyothi, 21, of the same hamlet, six months ago. Jyothi’s parents Balraj, 45, and Tulasiammal, 40, were not happy with the marriage and refused to accept Vignesh as their son-in-law. “They were planning to finish off Vignesh,” said a police officer.

On Sunday night, Balraj, Tulasiammal and their 17-year-old son went to Vignesh’s house and attacked him. “Tulasiammal temporarily blinded Vignesh by spraying chilli powder on his eyes while the boy beat him up. Then Balraj hacked him using a sickle. Vignesh suffered cut injuries on left shoulder, back and hip,” said special sub-inspector P Venkidusamy. The trio then managed to escape from the spot.

Neighbours rushed Vignesh to the Thalavadi government hospital. He was later shifted to the government hospital in Sathyamangalam.
