ERODE: Former minister K.A. Sengottaiyan, reportedly dissatisfied with
AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS), has stirred controversy by announcing that he will openly discuss his future in the party on September 5.
Sengottaiyan, a senior figure in the AIADMK, has been unhappy with EPS for several months. He has repeatedly signalled his discontent by boycotting events attended by Palaniswami and even taking alternate routes to the assembly when EPS is present.
Meanwhile, EPS has been actively campaigning across Tamil Nadu under the banner of safeguarding the people and preserving the state’s interests. The campaign began with a major event in Coimbatore, in the Kongu region. Sengottaiyan, himself a prominent leader from this region, chose not to attend.
Earlier, a farmers’ felicitation ceremony was held to honour EPS for implementing the Athikkadavu-Avinashi project. Sengottaiyan also stayed away from that event, citing the absence of photographs of AIADMK icons M.G. Ramachandran and J. Jayalalithaa.
During his tour, EPS has received warm receptions from district secretaries and senior party leaders in every district. In contrast, Sengottaiyan remained at home and did not organise even a minimal welcome when EPS passed through Gobichettipalayam.
Against this backdrop, Sengottaiyan has now said he will “speak candidly” on September 5 and urged supporters and party workers to “remain patient until then.”
