Elephant tramples woman to death in Erode, Tamil Nadu

NEW DELHI: A woman died after an elephant attack in Tamil Nadu's Erode district on Sunday night, officials reported Monday. 36-year-old Lakshmi was walking with her husband, Balan, and relatives near Kallamplayam in the Thengumarahada area when the incident occurred. Lakshmi was walking behind the group when an elephant emerged from roadside bushes and attacked her. Balan and others used a torch to scare the elephant away. Forest officials transported Lakshmi to Sathyamangalam Government Hospital, where the doctors declared her dead. Bhavanisagar forest officials and police are investigating.
