Couple whose kin opposed their marriage end life

TIRUPUR: The bodies of a couple, who police sucspect had committed suicide on Saturday, were recovered from their house at

Vellakoil

here on Monday.

Police identified the deceased as T Nandakumar, 20, of Soorampatti in

Erode

and S Sathyapriya, 23, of

Mayiladuthurai

in

Nagapattinam

. The couple had become friends through Facebook and later fell in love, a police officer said. “They wished to get married. But the couple’s parents opposed it citing difference in their age and caste. However, they got married eight months ago and moved to Ooty, from where they shifted to Vellakoil,” said the officer.

Nandakumar, a school dropout, was working as a cook while Sathyapriya, a BCom graduate, was staying at home. “It seems they were frustrated as they could not get support from their families. They also had some difference of opinions. They consumed poison and hanged themselves from a ceiling,” the officer added.
