NEW DELHI: A 32-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband with an LPG cylinder at their home in south east Delhi’s Pul Prahladpur on Sunday night.
The woman, identified as Poonam, was living with her husband Suresh Kumar in a DDA Janta Flats unit. The couple had married in 2020 and had shifted to Delhi from Churu in Rajasthan barely a month ago.
According to the initial investigation, the incident was triggered by an argument over financial support for the husband’s brother. Police said the accused allegedly attacked Poonam repeatedly using a small LPG cylinder, inflicting fatal injuries. She died on the spot.
The couple has two daughters — a four-year-old who lives with grandparents in Churu, and a younger child, aged around one-and-a-half years, who was present in the house at the time of the incident.
Neighbours alerted the police after hearing screams from the flat. By the time officers reached the spot, the woman had succumbed to her injuries.
Suresh Kumar was taken into custody from the scene. Police have registered a case of murder and are continuing their investigation, including questioning the accused and examining the circumstances that led to the fatal assault.
