Wine bottles in car lead cops to man who robbed businessman
NEW DELHI: Discarded
The accused, Sunil alias Sonu (22), was involved in around nine cases of murder and robberies, said DCP (Dwarka) Shibesh Singh. A team led by ACP Rajender Singh arrested Sunil from Budh Vihar on Saturday.
Police said the only clue in the case was that a Maruti Alto car was used by the accused while robbing businessman Karan Soni. The car, bearing registration number DL 8CAS 4170, was found abandoned in Dwarka sector-19, a week later by a PCR vehicle.
A country-made pistol and some empty wine bottles were found inside the car, which were sent for forensic examination. Analysis revealed that five people were inside the car. Barcodes on the bottles led officers to a liquor shop in Dwarka sector-19. Police said that the CCTV footage from the shop was matched with the footage from the fuel station, which revealed the identity of the accused.
Following his arrest, Sunil told police that after robbing Soni he and his associates bought the wine bottles to celebrate. However, while returning to their hide-out the car brushed another vehicle. They panicked and fled leaving the car on the road.
