‘Why is BJP scared?’: Arvind Kejriwal flags ‘blocked’ AAP Gujarat social media pages amid civic polls

NEW DELHI: AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday escalated the party’s attack on the BJP, alleging that its Gujarat social media pages were blocked out of “fear” amid the ongoing local body elections.Reposting a video by Gujarat AAP president Isudan Gadhvi, Kejriwal wrote on X: “Aam Aadmi Party's social media FB and Insta pages have been blocked in Gujarat. In the video, Gadhvi claimed that both Facebook and Instagram pages of AAP Gujarat had been shut down, alleging political pressure. He said the platforms had collectively garnered over 8 crore views in the past month and were emerging as a “voice of the people of Gujarat.”“The BJP in Gujarat is so terrified of the Aam Aadmi Party that now the party’s Gujarat Facebook and Instagram pages have also been shut down,” Gadhvi said, adding that the move was an attempt to suppress public sentiment. He asserted that if the ruling party had performed well, it would not need to resort to such measures, and expressed confidence that voters would respond decisively.
The controversy comes as AAP’s Gujarat unit’s Instagram handle was suspended during the civic poll campaign, with party leaders questioning the timing and alleging a deliberate attempt to curb its outreach.
The development also follows a major political setback for AAP, with Raghav Chadha and six other Rajya Sabha MPs announcing their exit from the party and decision to join the BJP a day earlier.AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha said the party had been receiving strong public support in Gujarat and asked whether the BJP was “scared” of its rising popularity. Party spokesperson Anurag Dhandha also alleged that the account was shut down under pressure from the ruling party, adding that AAP would continue its campaign. There was no immediate response from the BJP on the allegations.(With agency inputs)
