NEW DELHI: Shelly Oberoi, a first-time councillor from Delhi's East Patel Nagar ward and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate, won the mayoral election of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Wednesday.

- Shelly Oberoi (39) won the election in the East Patel Nagar ward, which is known as the stronghold of former Delhi BJP leader Adesh Gupta.
- Oberoi had registered victory in the MCD polls from ward no. 86 on December 7.
- She becomes Delhi’s first woman mayor in little over a decade.
- Shelly won the mayoral election by securing 150 votes while BJP candidate Rekha Gupta got 116 votes.

- The councillor has been awarded both the 'Miss Kamla Rani Prize' and a scholarship for achieving the highest grade point average among all the students in the college.
