on Monday. However, all his attempts to stay under the radar failed, and he was nabbed once again.

DCP (north) Nupur Prasad said the accused, Mahendar, pushed a constable who had accompanied him to the washroom, and fled. On Sunday night, Mahendar was arrested for numerous cases of vehicle thefts and three stolen motorcycles were found with him. He was lodged into a cell at the Timarpur police station. On Monday morning, two constables took him to Jharoda police post.

After being questioned in the investigative officer’s room for a while, Mahendar requested to be taken to the washroom. A constable held his hand and accompanied him. “I stood near the gate. Suddenly, he came out and pushed me. I lost balance and fell, while he jumped over the wall and ran away,” the constable said.

Mahendar hid in a drain near the post, and later went into the Jharoda village. The police alerted the nearby units and Mahendar’s photo was shared on WhatsApp groups. Mahendar then found a place to hide in the Yamuna Biodiversity Park. The police said Mahendar spent the whole day at the park and later made his way towards the Outer Ring Road. Around evening, he hitched several rides towards his home in Sultanpuri, where he planned to hide. However, he faltered at the final step.

Patrolling cops in the area spotted Mahendar. He was again handed over to the Burari police station. Now, he has also been booked under IPC Section 223 (escape from confinement or custody negligently suffered by public servant).
