Traffic curbs across central Delhi for IPL match, teachers’ rally today
NEW DELHI: Commuters in central Delhi are likely to face traffic restrictions and congestion on April 4 as the city hosts an IPL match at Arun Jaitley Stadium and a teachers' rally at Ram Leela Ground, Delhi Traffic Police said.
Traffic is expected to be affected from early morning due to a teachers' rally organised by the Teachers Federation of India at Ram Leela Ground between 10 am and 5 pm. Peak movement of participants is anticipated from 8 am onwards, prompting traffic regulation in surrounding areas.
Later in the day, an IPL 2026 match between Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, scheduled from 3 pm to 7.30 pm at Arun Jaitley Stadium, is likely to further increase vehicular movement in the area from early afternoon.
According to traffic advisories, diversions and restrictions may be imposed based on real-time conditions on key arterial roads, including JLN Marg, Bahadur Shah Zafar (BSZ) Marg, Asaf Ali Road, Chaman Lal Marg, Ajmeri Gate and Minto Road.
Heavy and commercial vehicles may be prohibited on stretches such as Daryaganj to Delhi Gate Chowk, Delhi Gate Chowk to Guru Nanak Chowk on JLN Marg, and ITO to Delhi Gate via BSZ Marg. During the rally, restrictions may also be enforced at Kamla Market roundabout, Delhi Gate, Ajmeri Gate and Minto Road, if required.
Parking restrictions will remain in force across both event zones. No parking will be allowed on JLN Marg, Asaf Ali Road and both carriageways of Chaman Lal Marg, and violating vehicles will be towed. For the rally, visitors have been advised to park at Mata Sundari College, while buses will drop passengers at Delhi Gate and be stationed at Rajghat, with no bus movement permitted beyond Delhi Gate.
For the IPL match, parking will be available at Mata Sundari Road, Rajghat Power House Road and Velodrome Road, along with park-and-ride facilities. No parking will be allowed near the stadium except for vehicles with designated parking labels. Spectator entry to different gates of the stadium will be routed via BSZ Marg and JLN Marg.
