The neighbours had last seen Pappu returning from office on Monday evening. They became suspicious after they heard Gullar bawling on Tuesday morning. Repeated calls to Pappu and Shobha were not responded to by anyone . Finally, their neighbour Meena went to the room and came upon the terrible sight.
Pappu and his daughter Koyal were sprawled on the floor with a chunni tied to their throat. Circumstantial evidence suggest that they had been strangled. Shobha was lying on the bed. The room had been ransacked. Meena called the landlord who informed the police.
Deputy commissioner of police (crime) Kuldip Singh, assistant commissioner of police NIT Ramesh Pal and in charge NIT Abdul Shahid reached the spot.
Commissioner P K Agrawal also reached the spot to find out the status of the proceedings .

Police suspect robbery to be the motive behind the murder . Pappu’s employer has been informed. His brother Kanhaiya, a resident of Tughlaqabad, said. "I spoke to Pappu on Monday evening as I needed money. But his phone has been out of reach since morning."
Kanhaiya ruled out the possibility of a conflict leading to the murder. The police are yet to ascertain the motive behind the murder.
