New Delhi: A suspended policeman was arrested for allegedly aiding the killers of businessman Sunil Jain, who was gunned down in east Delhi last year. The accused cop, Sukhbir Singh, allegedly provided shelter and financial assistance to them.
On Dec 8, 2024, Jain was shot dead by two bike-borne assailants while returning from his morning walk. Initially, police suspected it was a case of robbery or personal enmity, but further investigation showed that Jain was mistakenly killed. The intended target was the father of a minor, accused of masterminding the murder of property dealer Akash Sharma and his nephew.
The investigation led police to gangster Hashim Baba's associate, Anil alias Sonu Matka, who was involved in a double murder case in Farsh Bazar on Diwali last year. Sachin Golu, a close associate of Akash, vowed to avenge his death but was misled into believing the minor's father was responsible. Golu and his accomplices mistakenly targeted Sunil Jain, killing him in the process. TNN
