Stockbroker held after wife found hanging

GURGAON: The wife of a stockbroker was found dead in the couple's N-block house in DLF-II here on Tuesday morning. The body of Ruchi Bhuttan, 28, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in the drawing room. While Gurgaon police have arrested Ruchi's husband, Sumit Bhuttan, in the alleged dowry death case on the basis of a complaint by her family, sources said the couple's marriage had been rocked by Sumit's proximity to a model.
The police have charged Sumit and a model, Meera Chopra, with criminal conspiracy based on the FIR registered by Ruchi's mother Sudha Gupta. Ruchi's sister, Shefali , has alleged that her brother-inlaw and Meera were in a relationship . "( Sumit) had been forcing my sister to get money from us whenever he lost money in the business. He wants to marry Meera and so wanted to divorce my sister," said Shefali . Meera could not be reached for her comment on the allegation. DCP (east) Maheswar Dayal told TOI, "We registered a case against Sumit Bhuttan and Meera Chopra under section 304B and 120B of IPC on the statement of Sudha. We are interrogating Sumit."
The east district police said Ruchi and Sumit were married in Sahibabad in 2005. The couple have a five-year-old son Aryan and they lived with Sumit's parents. "For the past few months there were disputes between the two," the police said.
Sumit owns Angel Brokerage Pvt Ltd at Bhikaji Cama Place in Delhi and the police are investigating whether his firm has a branch in Mumbai. Investigators said earlier Ruchi also worked with him.
Reconstructing Monday night's chain of events, the police said the couple had a fight over some issue, after which Ruchi spoke to her mother and her sister. "She asked us whether we couldn't take care of her," Sudha said.
Police said, after their argument Ruchi went to her mother-inlaw's room and Sumit to his father's room. "After a while, Ruchi came out of the room and slept in the drawing room. Around 2.30 am, when Sumit's father Gulshan Kumar woke up, he found her hanging from the ceiling fan. Kumar woke up all his family members and even informed Ruchi's family about the incident," said a police source.
Although the family called the police around 4.30 am, they reached the site only at 7am since they did not have any policewomen at the local police station. Ruchi was declared dead on arrival at a local private hospital. Her body was handed over to her family after postmortem.
