South corporation to procure hydraulic lifts, first for a civic body in Delhi

NEW DELHI: South

corporation

is likely to have

hydraulic lifts

, one each for four wards of its 104 wards, soon if its trial run with Gujarat-based company Shaktimaan’s hydraulic lift is satisfactory. South standing committee chairman Radhey Shyam Sharma said that a demonstration was given by the company a month ago.

“The lifts can be used for changing street lights, trimming of trees, white washing, fixing windows and many other civic services. None of the civic bodies in the city have hydraulic lifts. It will ensure that labourers don’t get hurt while prunning trees. They no longer have to risk their lives for doing these jobs,” Sharma said.

Sharma said that according to the National Green Tribunal’s orders the civic body cannot cut old and big trees without permission. “We will raise an expression of interest if we find the equipment to be satisfactory after using it for one-and-a-half month. Each lift costs at least 15 lakh and we cannot risk wasting money on the same,” he said.

At least 25-26 hydraulic lifts are likely to be bought by the civic body soon. Other corporations do not have such equipment at their disposal.
