Romanian held for ATM card cloning in Delhi

NEW DELHI: A Romanian has been arrested for allegedly duping people by installing skimming devices and cameras at unguarded ATMs in south Delhi areas. His act was exposed after an advocate from Greater Kailash-I informed police about the fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 40,000 from his debit card.


The accused has been identified as Claudiu Cosmin (29). According to police, Cosmin and his associate Danial came to India in February 2019. They would install skimming devices and cameras to steal the card and PIN details at several unguarded ATM kiosks in south Delhi areas. They stole data of at least 50 people.

“The accused managed to withdraw about Rs 15 lakh from the cards which were cloned from Greater Kailash, Malviya Nagar, CR Park, Vasant Kunj and other areas,” said Atul Kumar Thakur, deputy commissioner of police, South. Eight cloned cards, a laptop, a mobile phone, masks and other devices were recovered. Danial is yet to be arrested.
