Ramvir Singh Bidhuri urges AAP government to make petrol & diesel cheaper by Rs 10 litre

NEW DELHI: Leader of Opposition in Delhi assembly,

Ramvir Singh Bidhuri

on Friday urged the Aam Aadmi Party government to cut value-added tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel by Rs 10 each per litre in Delhi so that people can get more relief. The Centre recently cut excise duty on petrol and diesel by Rs 5 and Rs 10, respectively, per litre.

In a statement, the BJP leader announced that all BJP MLAs will stage a protest near chief minister Arvind Kejriwal's residence if the

AAP

government does not cut VAT cut by Sunday.

“The central government has given tremendous relief to people of the whole country by cutting Rs 5 per liter on petrol and Rs 10 per liter on diesel. After this, 13 states and union territories also have reduced VAT, but the Delhi government is still silent on it. After the Centre, now it is the turn of the state governments to give relief to the public by reducing VAT. Many states, including Haryana, Bihar, Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Goa,

Himachal Pradesh

, and Karnataka, have followed the Centre's step to reduce prices of petrol and diesel,” said Singh.

“We are giving an ultimatum to the Delhi government that it should decide to cut VAT by Sunday. If the Delhi government does not do this, we will hold a dharna and agitation on Monday at CM’s residence so that the Delhi government can be forced to reduce VAT,”

Bidhuri

stated.
