NEW DELHI: Welcoming the Union home ministry's approval to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to prosecute deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia in a political snooping case, Delhi BJP on Wednesday demanded immediate arrest of the AAP senior functionary and an investigation against chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Addressing a press conference, Delhi BJP's working president, Virendra Sachdeva, said it was not a simple corruption case, but a matter of national security. "We welcome the home ministry's approval to CBI to prosecute Manish Sisodia in the Kejriwal government's Feedback Unit (FBU) snooping scandal," Sachdeva said. "It is a serious matter related to national security. The Aam Aadmi Party not only spied upon the central government ministers but also snooped on the LG House, political parties and media houses," he alleged, demanding, "CBI should immediately register a regular case under serious sections and arrest Sisodia at the earliest."

Sisodia in a tweet, however, claimed that the case was fake and said more such cases would be registered due to the growth of AAP across the country.

The Delhi BJP chief also alleged Kejriwal's involvement in the case and demanded an investigation against him. "Instead of proposing the formation of FBU through a proper note, it was brought up in a meeting of council of ministers as an on-table agenda by Kejriwal. All espionage reports were sent directly to the CM. This clearly indicates his direct involvement," Sachdeva alleged.

Delhi BJP spokesperson Harish Khurana claimed that BJP had been raising the issue of political snooping since 2015. He alleged that crores of rupees had been transferred in the name of Secret Service Fund to the FBU account and no one knew what happened to that money. "CBI should also investigate this point. In 2015-16, over 700 people were spied on, including leaders of political parties, some officials, media houses," Khurana claimed. "Now that the investigation has started, both Kejriwal and Sisodia will soon be behind bars," he added.
