NEW DELHI: Head constable Prakash Veer, who was injured when he challenged dacoits in Anand Vihar on Wednesday, has been awarded Rs 5,000 for exemplary courage.

NEW DELHI: Head constable PrakashVeer, who was injured when he challenged dacoits in Anand Vihar on Wednesday,has been awarded Rs 5,000 for exemplary courage. The dacoits had struck at theresidence of a relative of former Union law minister Shanti Bhushan.Veerhad sustained injuries on his chest while chasing the dacoits who shot at him.Surjeet Singh, a security guard, was also injured during the chase. He, too, hasreceived a cash reward of Rs 3,000 from the police.Joint commissioner ofpolice (New Delhi range) B K Gupta also ordered that all officers on emergencyduty be armed. "Veer was unarmed when he went to attend the call fromBhushan’s house. Although he had personnel with him, he was unable tofight back because the dacoits had locally-made firearms," Gupta said.
