NEW DELHI: Two men were injured when they tried resisting a pickpocket in a DTC bus near Sarai Kale Khan on Monday evening. The men caught the pickpocket and dragged him off the bus to take him to a nearby police outpost when he flipped out a knife and attacked them.
The youth was later caught by the police when he was trying to flee from his residence in northeast Delhi’s Nand Nagri.
The incident was reported around 7.30pm when one of the victim,
Mohammad Shahzada, returning from his workplace in Kalkaji, boarded a DTC bus on route number 429 to get off at Ashram.
He felt someone tugging at his pocket and immediately caught hold of a youth and raised an alarm.
A fellow passenger Ram Kumar helped Shahzada and decided to handover the accused to the police outpost near Sarai Kale Khan.
As they were walking towards the police outpost, the youth, Mohammad Fahim, pulled out a knife and stabbed both men indiscriminately before fleeing from the scene.
Shahzada raised an alarm, after which locals chased Fahim, but he managed to board a bus and escape.
Ram Kumar and Shahzada were immediately rushed to AIIMS and are undergoing treatment for their injuries. “A team was formed to track down Fahim. We scanned the CCTV footage and found him hiding at his residence in Nand Nagri. He was arrested along with the knife he had used to stab the two men,” said DCP (southeast) Romil Baaniya.
A case under sections sof robbery and attempt to murder has been registered against him.
