NEW DELHI: Sher Singh Rana, the prime accused in bandit-turned-politician Phoolan Devi murder case, on Monday told a trial court that he wants to help poor inmates of Tihar Jail with a part of the royalty earned from his autobiography ‘Jail Diary: Tihar se Kabul Kandahar Tak’.
In his plea to chief metropolitan magistrate Vidya Prakash, Rana said he wished to give the money to poor prisoners as part of service to the nation.

He also told the court that he had written to the Director General of Prisons seeking his permission but received no response. The court issued a notice to the jail superintendent, seeking his reply to Rana’s plea by October 16.
Rana said his autobiography published in Hindi details his life with an emphasis on how he escaped from jail in 2004, travelled to Afghanistan and brought back the remains of Prithviraj Chauhan.
