NEW DELHI: On the occasion of Children's Day, various NGOs and government organizations held special walks and camps to create awareness about issues like female foeticide, education for all, etc.
Union home minister P Chidambaram inaugurated a function organized by Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) at the Ambedkar Stadium. Chidambaram stressed on the need for education for all, especially girls, and said that education was the most important instrument of empowerment.

Nearly 600 children, performed aerobics and folk dances while 20,000 kids cheered them on.
At National Bal Bhavan near ITO, national children's assemble and integration camp 2009 was inaugurated by Union HRD minister Kapil Sibal. A special creativity fare was also organized on the first day of the week-long camp wherein children participated in various activities and fun games. Bal Bhavan also organized a magic show, puppet show and joyrides for children.
Project Concern International India, a NGO, organized a special event with 'save the girl child' as it theme to create awareness against female foeticide. The program was attended by other NGO representatives working in New Seemapuri and those working for children needing care. On the occasion, children displaying placards and shouting slogans took out a 1.5 km-long march through various blocks of New Seemapuri.
