NEW DELHI: A 65-year-old man and his wife were injured and robbed when some intruders entered their house around 2 am on Tuesday morning at Kishan Vihar market area in Burari in north Delhi.
The victims, identified as Ram Milan Sharma and his wife Omwati (60), stay alone in their house and reported that around three men entered their house and stole cash and jewellery worth Rs 3,60,000 and a mobile phone.
"The robbers first attacked the house of Ramjeet Singh, Sharma's next door neighbour. The Singh family woke up due to the commotion and the robbers escaped after stealing only a gold nose pin and two mobile phones and jumped, via the terrace, into Sharma's house. When they entered his house, Sharma's wife woke up due to all the noise. She started screaming when she saw the robbers and they attacked her with the butt of their gun. Meanwhile, Sharma himself came out and was also attacked by the robbers, who made off with the booty. We have registered a case and are questioning local people," said a police official from Burari police station.
He added that the victims were taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre Hospital and were discharged on Tuesday evening. "We will be questioning the family now as they are in a condition to give a statement. Statements of neighbours have been recorded. Further investigations in the matter are on," said the official.
