NEW DELHI: Eight undertrial prisoners from various jails in Delhi-NCR were released on bail after

, an initiative by

Bharti Enterprises

to provide legal assistance and aid to

underprivileged undertrials

, facilitated their release.

Lawyers from Nyaya Bharti, governed by separate governing body led by former Chief Justice of India Justice A S Anand, provided legal aid, helped the undertrials to file the bail applications and also represented them in various Delhi courts, Rakesh Bharti Mittal,Co-Chairman of Bharti Foundation said in a statement.

“With the release of the first set of underprivileged

undertrials

, we have made a beginning towards reaching out to and assisting the under trials who are languishing in jails for minor offences,” he said.

The initiative, funded by Bharti Airtel, is focused on Delhi NCR and aims to expand gradually to cover entire North India and plan to seek partnership across the station.

Bharti foundation is the philanthropic arm of Bharti Enterprises which provides free education to children across six states.
