Najeeb Ahmed row: JNU VC met Police Commissioner, reward for info increased to Rs 1 lakh

NEW DELHI: Jawaharlal Nehru University Vice-Chancellor, M Jagadesh Kumar met the Commissioner of Police, Delhi, about the search for MTech student, Najeeb Ahmed, missing for over 10 days now. After the meeting with the policy, Kumar and other officials of the JNU administration, called a meeting of the JNU Students' Union, Teachers' Association and Officer's Association, Staff Association, the hostel president and four wardens of Mahi Mandavi hostel.

"The vice-chancellor and rector expressed the JNU community's anguish over the missing JNU student and appealed to the Police Commissioner...to expedite and strengthen the search for the missing JNU student, Mr.

Ahmed," says a statement from the JNU administration. The same statement says they were informed that the police department "has taken several serious steps to find Najeeb Ahmed and has decided to increase the amount of reward for information...from Rs.50,000 to Rs.1,00,000." "All the members of the JNU community were requested to pass on any information they have to help us find Najeeb," it adds.

Monday saw yet another protest from JNU students about the search for Ahmed who went missing on October 15, after a violent altercation with members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad at the Mahi Mandavi hostel. The university students had gheraoed the VC and other officials for an entire night last week and on Sunday, formed a human chain right up to his home.
