NEW DELHI: A massive traffic jam occurred on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway at the Ghazipur border as Congress workers gathered there defying heavy barricading ahead of Rahul Gandhi's visit to Sambhal on Monday.
The Uttar Pradesh Police has put up barricades and started checking vehicles to prevent any untoward incident.

“We have input about the gathering on the highway. We have deployed security personnel to prevent any untoward incident,” Assistant Commissioner of Police Swatantra Kumar Singh said.

Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition, will be stopped at the UP gate in Ghaziabad due to prohibitory orders in Sambhal, according to a senior police officer. These orders, under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), were extended to December 31.
“We will not permit Rahul Gandhi to Sambhal as prohibitory orders have been issued by the administration there. Police will stop Gandhi at UP gate,” Ghaziabad Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Mishra said.

Gandhi plans to visit violence-hit Sambhal on Wednesday with a Congress delegation and five other Uttar Pradesh Congress MPs. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, the newly-elected Wayanad MP, may also join.
Tensions arose in Sambhal after a court-ordered survey of a Mughal-era mosque on November 19, following claims of a previous temple at the site. Violence broke out during a second survey on November 24 near Shahi Jama Masjid, resulting in four deaths and numerous injuries.
