Many promises not fulfilled yet, says opposition
New Delhi: Congress has termed the first year of BJP govt in Delhi as one of "unfulfilled promises", alleging that several key assurances made to the public ahead of last year's assembly polls remain unmet. "It (the tenure) has exposed 12 misdeeds of the govt in 12 months of misrule," said Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav.Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also called the BJP administration as a failure across major sectors, alleging that it has betrayed the trust of Delhiites. AAP presented its own ‘report card' on the govt's first year and criticised its performance.
Party veteran and former deputy CM Manish Sisodia said, "Modiji guaranteed a Rs 2,500 monthly assistance to Delhi women by March 8, 2025, but even after a year, not a single rupee has been given. In just one year, the condition of govt schools, hospitals, water supply and essential public services has deteriorated sharply, making people miss Arvind Kejriwal's tenure. Over 1 lakh youth are mourning loss of jobs, and people are dying after falling into potholes, while Rekha Gupta is celebrating."Congress's Yadav accused the administration of not taking adequate steps to curb rising pollution levels and alleged that school fees have increased, thereby burdening families. He also questioned the status of the promised subsidised LPG cylinders for economically weaker sections."While BJP has been busy taking advantage of facilities and perks of power, opposition AAP has proved to be just a nuisance by not raising issues concerning the public," Yadav said.He alleged that despite promises to clean the Yamuna, data on its pollution levels was not released. He claimed Chhath devotees did not receive relief through adequate arrangements at ghats. He alleged tampering with data at air quality monitoring stations, stating that AQI had crossed 700 at certain areas this winter.Out of the annual budget outlay of Rs 1 lakh crore, nearly Rs 58,000 crore has remained unspent, affecting delivery of promised services, the Delhi Congress chief said. He also alleged that 2,032 buses have been phased out from the Delhi Transport Corporation fleet without adequate replacement."The people of Delhi have been supplied with contaminated drinking water for one year. The quality of drinking water has deteriorated further, and the tanker mafia has expanded its tentacles," Yadav said. However, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva highlighted the "achievements" of the current govt, saying it has taken steps to improve the city's sewerage infrastructure. He alleged that previous Congress and AAP govts had been involved in irregularities in laying sewer lines and their maintenance, which used to lead to frequent waterlogging.Sachdeva congratulated the govt and described its first year as a "year of responsibility and accountability" towards Delhiites. He claimed the govt has kept its doors open to the public to air its grievances and has remained answerable on every issue.
