New Delhi: A 48-year-old man was allegedly robbed at gunpoint by four motorbike-borne assailants in southeast Delhi's East of Kailash in the early hours of Tuesday.
The accused allegedly robbed his gold kada, chain and pendant.
Ankur Ahuja stepped out of his home late at night to drop a friend off at Sant Nagar and was returning home on his scooter around 3.15 am when he began to suspect he was being followed.
According to his wife, he noticed two motorcycles trailing him. As he continued towards his residence, one of the motorcycles sped up and rammed into his scooter, forcing him to stop abruptly. The bikes surrounded him. The wife told TOI that three of the assailants had helmets on, so their faces were covered. Two of them had firearms.
"They pointed their guns at him and threatened to shoot him if he resisted," she said, adding that the assailants initially attempted to steal his scooter but were unable to do so as he had hidden the keys.
"They noticed his gold kada and used a pair of pliers or cutters to cut it off his wrist. When his arm felt an impact, he moved a little and they noticed he had a chain on as well. They then snatched his chain with the pendant," she said. They fled the spot around 3.28 am.
The woman pointed out that several trucks were parked along the stretch. "A taxi driver did stop briefly and saw what was happening, but the moment he noticed the weapons, he drove away," she said.
Ahuja had memorised the registration number of one of the bikes and shared it with the police. Police found out that the motorcycle had allegedly been reported stolen from Kalkaji on March 12. "The incident has left him traumatised. We are extremely worried about our safety," she said.
A case has been registered at the Amar Colony police station. Police said CCTV footage is being analysed and efforts are under way to identify and apprehend the accused at the earliest.
