NEW DELHI: A Delhi court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his acquaintance by setting him afire after being enraged over the victim's affair with his wife.
Additional Sessions Judge Raj Kumar Chauhan also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on Mohd Khursheed after holding him guilty of murder under Section 302 of the IPC.
The court relied upon the statements of prosecution witnesses Mohd Irshad and Arman Khan who had taken the victim Mohd Murtaza to Jai Prakash Narayan hospital in Delhi after the incident on February 28, 2006.
Both the witnesses deposed that the accused was angry with the victim for having an affair with his wife Hasina. Even prior to the incident, the accused and the victim had a fight over the issue, they said.
According to the prosecution, the accused had burnt Murtaza after pouring kerosene oil on him at a place near Meena Bazar under Jama Masjid police station.
The victim, who was admitted to the hospital with 90% burn injuries, succumbed to them on March 3, 2006.
The prosecution produced 19 witnesses to prove its charges against the accused.
