NEW DELHI: A Delhi court on Monday extended by two days the police custody of the owner of a hotel in Delhi's Malviya Nagar, where a fire claimed 22 lives last week. The court also remanded another accused, a cook, to 14 days of judicial custody and dismissed his bail application.Judicial Magistrate Bhanu Pratap Singh was hearing a plea filed by Delhi Police seeking an extension of the custody of hotel owner Lavkesh Bajaj for further interrogation in connection with the case.Allowing the plea, the court extended Bajaj's police custody by two days and remanded cook Keshav Negi to 14 days of judicial custody.Negi was arrested on Saturday, with investigators alleging that his negligence contributed to the June 3 blaze at Flourish Stays Bed and Breakfast in the Hauz Rani area of Malviya Nagar.Several other individuals associated with the establishment have also been detained and are being questioned as part of the ongoing investigation into the fire.Hotel owner Lavkesh Bajaj had been arrested earlier and booked on charges including culpable homicide not amounting to murder.Officials said the building did not have a fire no-objection certificate (NOC).(With agency inputs)
