Delhi Covid lockdown news: National capital records 28,395 new cases, 277 deaths

Thousands of migrant workers gathered at Anand Vihar ISBT to catch a bus home, hours after chief minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a week-long lockdown and appealed to them with folded hands not to leave Delhi while sounding a word of assurance -- "Main hoon na" (I am here for you). Police officials said over 5,000 people gathered at Anand Vihar including at ISBT as well as the railway station and the numbers were rising. "I assure you, the government will take full care of you. Main hun na, mujh par bharosa rakho (I am here for you, have faith in me)," Kejriwal said, announcing the lockdown from 10pm tonight to 5am next Monday. Stay with TOI for all the latest updates:

Delhi medical store owner held for black marketing of Remdesivir
A pharmacy store owner and his employee were arrested in Delhi on Monday in connection with alleged black marketing of antiviral drug Remdesivir, police said. The accused were identified as Basant Goel (41), a resident of Delhi's Vivek Vihar and his employee Ramoutar Sharma (27), a resident of North Chhajupur in Delhi, a police official said. (PTI)

The Delhi government, which is battling to cater to the need of oxygen for Covid-19 patients, Monday claimed in the Delhi high court that one of the reasons for the shortage of oxygen was diversion to one of the largest states of the country. When the submission to this effect was made, a bench of justice Vipin Sanghi and justice Rekha Palli asked the state's name but senior advocate Rahul Mehra, representing the Delhi government, refrained from naming it and said it could “become political”. Liquor manufacturers on Monday asked the Delhi government to allow home delivery of alcoholic beverages as tipplers thronged liquor shops forming serpentine queues ahead of the six-day lockdown beginning this evening in the wake of the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. On Monday as soon as Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal announced a six-day lockdown from 10pm on Monday till 5am the next Monday to curb growing cases of Covid-19, a sudden rush of punters was seen outside liquor shops in the national capital with long queues. Delhi court judge dies of Covid-19
A 47-year-old district court judge succumbed to Covid-19 at a government hospital in Delhi on Monday. Kovai Venugopal, who was a judge at the Saket Family Court, died at 11am at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Naryan Hospital. According to the court sources, he was admitted to the hospital on Sunday and was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) ward. (PTI)

Covid-19 cases on the rise in Gurugram's high-rise apartments
