NEW DELHI: The motive behind the murder of decorated cop Kailash Chand Yadav (41), a close aide of slain special cell officers Rajbir Singh and Mohan Chand Sharma, still remains shrouded in mystery even as police have secured a two-day remand for the accused, trainee sub-inspector
Amarjeet Singh (25).
The last rites of Yadav, one of most soft-spoken officers in the force, were completed with full honours at the Nigambodh Ghat on Friday.
The officer, who was on duty when he was shot, was given a gun salute. Commissioner of police B K Gupta, special commissioner (law and order) Dharmendra Kumar, special CP (special cell) P N Aggarwal, joint CP (special cell) R S Krishnaiah, joint CP (southern range) Amulya Patnaik and several other senior officers were present. A weekly law and order meeting, chaired by Gupta, was rescheduled to allow officers to attend the last rites.
Top cop Gupta later assured Yadav’s family that all efforts will be made to ensure that at least one member of the family is given a job in Delhi Police.
“We do not want to speculate about the reason of the murder. We have sought police custody of the accused and the truth will emerge within the next two days,’’ said additional CP (west) V Renganathan. Sources said there were two prime motives for the murder.
“Recently, the Nihal Vihar SHO and Yadav had asked Amarjeet to handle some sensitive court documents. When Amarjeet’s work did not meet expectations, it is alleged Yadav had called up his father and complained. Amarjeet was then scolded by his father. This seems to have upset Amarjeet and caused him to nurse a grudge against Yadav,’’ said a source.
Sources also claimed the accused was undergoing treatment for a mental disorder. Investigators, however, say this might be a ploy by Amarjeet to project himself as unwell.
Cops said it was surprising that Amarjeet never spoke a word to his senior before shooting him. He waited in silence for over three minutes after the first shot was fired before he shot Yadav again. “According to the other sub-inspector, Singh did not hurl any abuses before firing at Yadav,” said a senior officer. It was a cold, calculated murder.
