‘Kaccha Baniyan’ gang back, Sarvodaya Enclave house burgled
New Delhi: Kaccha Baniyan gang seems to be active in the city once again, with their most recent target being a house in south Delhi’s Sarvodaya Enclave. The burglary was reported on early Friday morning, when the gang allegedly decamped with cash and other valuables after a break-in.
According to police, the robbers reportedly scaled the balcony of the house using a tree from the nearby Vijay Mandal park for support, indicating prior reconnaissance of the area. They then allegedly cut open the main door with a sharp-edged cutter to gain entry. Police received a PCR call about the incident around 6 am. The gang reportedly remained inside the house for nearly an hour.
“A total of Rs 27,000 cash, a silver bowl, brass plates and a few household items were discovered to have been stolen,” said DCP (south) Anant Mittal. While reports claimed that a couple was held hostage, police denied this and said that they only discovered the theft when they woke up the next morning.
CCTV footage from a camera installed inside the house later surfaced on social media, showing three masked men moving around the premises in ‘kaccha baniyan’. Clad in gloves and socks — considered a signature of the gang to avoid leaving fingerprints — they appeared equipped with multiple tools. The footage, timestamped around 3.30am, shows them moving through several rooms, opening doors and systematically rummaging through belongings.
A case has been registered at Malviya Nagar police station.
