‘Boys, girls seen together during Ramzan will be married off’: Delhi's Jamia Millia Islamia goes to cops over fake notice
NEW DELHI: Jamia Millia Islamia on Tuesday flagged as "fake" a notification being circulated on social media as the university's order on Ramzan restrictions. The supposed fake notice prohibited boys and girls from being seen together on the campus during the holy month, and warned that violators would be forcibly married to each other.
The university has lodged a police complaint with the cyber security branch.
The fabricated notice, dated Feb 20, and carrying the university's letterhead said: "It is hereby to inform that during the Holy month of Ramadan, standing together in couple (boy & girl) is strictly prohibited!"
It warned, "If any couple is found standing together, their nikkah will be arranged immediately. In the event of violation, the couple will be responsible for arranging their own Walima."
The document was attributed to the university's office of registrar and academic branch and bore the signatures of senior officials. According to several students, the notification was circulated in WhatsApp groups.
The university clarified that the notice is "is totally fake and no such notification has been issued by the university authorities".
The administration added that the document was circulated "to malign the image of the university" and it "condemns such notifications."
