Ikea expands to Delhi-NCR with online sales, plans full-size stores in Gurugram and Noida
NEW DELHI: Swedish furniture giant Ikea will begin online sales in Delhi-NCR and nine other cities this week as it prepares to open full-size stores in Gurugram and Noida over the next few years.
The company also plans to set up smaller city centres in Delhi-NCR ahead of the store launches.
To support its expansion, Ikea has set up a 1.8 lakh sq ft Customer Distribution Centre (CDC) in Gurugram. Apart from Delhi-NCR, online sales will also be launched in Agra, Prayagraj, Amritsar, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Kanpur, Lucknow, Ludhiana, and Varanasi.
Ikea is expanding into North India after six years of operating stores in Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. "We have prepared ourselves well to open the biggest market in India, North India, Delhi-NCR," said Ikea India CEO Susanne Pulverer.
The company sees North India as the largest home furnishings market in the country and aims to tap into this opportunity.
Ikea will follow its hybrid omni-channel model, starting with online sales before launching physical stores. The Gurugram store is expected to open in 2026, followed by Noida in 2028.
The company will also introduce a store app to complement different retail formats.
Online sales currently contribute around 30% to Ikea India’s total revenue. "The Delhi online market is as big as Bengaluru, and we expect a significant spike in sales," said Ikea India e-commerce head Bhavana Jaiswal.
