‘I will fight for rights of women’

NEW DELHI : After cancellation of the nomination of Rocky Tuseed, Alka Shehrawat is the new presidential candidate of NSUI in the

DUSU

elections.

Shehrawat, a second-year geography (H) student who had filed her nomination as an independent, said, “I want to serve Delhi University students,” adding that she is a fighter and would work

for

the rights of

women

on campus if victorious.

While at Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, she was diagnosed with blood cancer. After months of treatment and a bone marrow transplant, Shehrawat survived the ailment and is still undergoing treatment.

The NSUI’s candidate said that when she got admitted to Shaheed Bhagat Singh Evening College, she found that there were a lot of issues troubling students.

“It was this that motivated me and I decided to

fight

the elections.”

Shehrawat had earlier filed a nomination for the post of central councillor in her college but decided to stand for the DUSU elections. She said that it was fate which has now made her the NSUI candidate, after the cancellation of Tuseed’s nomination. “I was informed about my nomination last night and was elated,” the candidate said.
