NEW DELHI: Robbers of the autolifter Jugaad gang used to consume drugs and alcohol before targeting their victims, said police.
"The gang told us that they used to strike under the influence of alcohol, ganja and Goli number 10 - a local psychotropic substance. They claimed that this cocktail would give them a high and embolden them to commit a crime without any fear and regret," said Chhaya Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (Outer).
Five youths, including two brothers, allegedly involved in six cases of robbery and vehicle thefts, were arrested in Outer Delhi. The arrested have been identified as
Anil Kumar (20),
Kaushal Singh (22), Mehtaab (32), Pradeep Kumar (33) and Amit Kumar (18). Anil and Pradeep are brothers.
The police recovered parts of a stolen autorickshaw- an engine and its three wheels - and a mobile phone. "All the accused are auto drivers. Their role in 7 vehicle thefts across outer, east and northeast Delhi is being ascertained. The gang targeted vehicles on NH-1,'' said the DCP. The accused stole on specific demand and made Rs 70,000 to Rs 1,00,000 by selling off the spare parts of tractors and TSRs to farmers and middlemen.
"They would hire autorickshaws. At isolated places, they would ask the driver to stop and would loot the auto. They would then snatch tractors at GTK Road or nearby rural areas. But they used to leave behind trolleys," Sharma said. After using the robbed autorickshaw in 2-3 robberies, they used to dismantle the same by removing the spare parts.
