Delhi police head constable kills ED staffer with licensed pistol at wedding
NEW DELHI: A Delhi Police head constable has been arrested for allegedly shooting dead a 30-year-old staffer of Enforcement Department (ED) with his licensed pistol at a wedding function in north Delhi's Wazirabad on Monday night. Two of his relatives have also been nabbed.
The victim, Ashish, hailed from Katha village in UP's Baghpat and was employed as ‘Multi-tasking Staff' in ED.
Late Monday, cops at Wazirabad police station received information that a man with a gunshot injury had been admitted to the trauma centre in Timarpur and was declared dead. Police teams reached the hospital, where the deceased was identified. He had been brought to the hospital by his younger brother, Anuj.
In his police statement, Anuj said that he and Ashish had come to attend the wedding of a neighbour at Gulshan Vatika in Wazirabad. Their neighbour Pravesh, a head constable in Delhi Police's traffic unit who holds a licensed pistol, also attended the function, along with his brother Sandeep and brothers-in-law Vipin and Vikash.
Anuj alleged that Pravesh harboured enmity against Ashish. About three months ago, Pravesh had complained to their father about a dispute, which was later resolved. However, Anuj alleged that Pravesh continued to threaten to kill his brother.
On Monday night, as the brothers were preparing to leave for their village, Pravesh, along with Sandeep, Vipin and Vikash, allegedly caught hold of Ashish and fired a shot at his chest. They fled immediately afterwards.
Ashish was first taken to a nearby private facility and later shifted to the Timarpur trauma centre, where doctors declared him dead.
Based on Anuj's statement, a case under Section 103(murder) of BNS and sections 25/27 of Arms Act was registered. Police arrested Pravesh, Sandeep and Vipin, and recovered the licensed pistol allegedly used in the crime.
