NEW DELHI: Naveen Khatri, one of the most wanted criminals of Delhi with a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, has been nabbed by the Special Cell of Delhi Police. The gangster was wanted in a triple murder case that took place in April this year in which his rival Monu Dariyapur, a businessman and a policeman were shot dead. He was also wanted for gunning down a policeman outside his house in northwest Delhi in 2015.
Khatri was the Man Friday of gangster Sonu Dariyapur.

In 2006, he had hatched a conspiracy to kill Sonu’s brother and arch rival Monu Dariyapur and had roped in a Haryana-based gang to execute the crime.
“Sonu, Khatri and the others shot at the car in which Monu and his wife were travelling. While the couple got critically injured, their driver was killed. The police then provided the couple personal security officers,” said DCP (special cell) Sanjeev Yadav. A murder case in this connection was registered at Punjabi Bagh police station. Khatri was later given bail in the case.
On April 29 this year, Sonu, Khatri and Haryana-based shooters planned an attack on Monu again. The attack took place around 11pm when Monu, his two PSOs — ASI Vijay Kumar and constable Kuldeep — and two of his friends, Arun Shastri and Yogesh, were sitting in a Ciaz car having snacks in Mianwali Nagar of west Delhi.
The gangsters fired 35 rounds in the crowded market killing Monu, Shastri and ASI Vijay Kumar. A bullet grazed constable Kuldeep’s hand. A bystander was also injured. The shooters are still absconding.
Yadav said that a special team led by ACP Akhilesh Yadav was formed to track the gangsters. On June 7, the southwestern range of Special Cell received a tip-off that Khatri would come to Rithala Metro station to meet his associates and he was subsequently arrested.
The arrested gangster is involved in more than five cases of contract killing, robbery and attempted murders. On January 17, 2015, Khatri and the alleged kingpin of his gang, Samunder Khatri, had a run-in with a policeman named Jitender Khatri and gunned him down. Samunder is still absconding and now tops the wanted list.
