NEW DELHI: One day after a sensational
robbery was reported from south Delhi’s Lodhi Colony, cops have arrested four men and seized all items. The accused had targeted an employee of
Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and had grievously injured him during the bid. TOI had first reported the incident.
DCP (south) Vijay Kumar said that the accused have been identified as Mukhtyar (26), Mohammad Hamid (28), Rupan (25) and Sanjay (20).
The teams have also seized part of the robbed cash, along with other items and the weapon used in the crime.
The four men came on the cops’ radar after they targeted a 46-year-old head messenger of SAIL – Madan Singh Rawat — on Friday evening. Rawat was walking towards the metro station when he was stopped by the four men near the intersection of Golf Links and Lodhi Road.
“There was no one else on the street at that time and as soon as they crossed me, one of them said ‘chaku maar’ (stab him). I grabbed their knife but they pinned me down and broke my leg and then stabbed me,” Rawat said, while speaking from the hospital.
After recording his statement, sleuths began the operation to track the four men. CCTV cameras had not captured the incident.
However, the teams led by SHO Lodhi Colony Anil Sharma started analysing the data of criminals who had recently come out of prison and found the first clue. The team detained Abdul Rahman from Hazrat Nizammudin, who had been arrested two months ago in Lodhi Colony.
When he was questioned, cops got to know about the involvement of Sanjay as he was present in the area on the day of the incident. Later that day, Sanjay was nabbed from his house in Sunlight Colony and he spoke about his other associates.
Police carried out raids in the night at Inderpuri, Ashram and Sunlight Colony at the hideouts of the remaining three criminals and nabbed them.
