Fire breaks out at north Delhi PG, residents evacuated safely
New Delhi: A fire broke out at a paying guest (PG) accommodation in north Delhi's Subzi Mandi area on Thursday evening, prompting the evacuation of several residents, including students. No injuries were reported.
According to Delhi Fire Service (DFS), a call about the blaze at Kedar Building in the L-Block area, near Ghanta Ghar, was received at 4.39 pm. Two fire tenders and a water bowser were rushed to the spot under the supervision of Station Officer Giriraj.
The fire erupted among domestic items on the fourth floor of the ground-plus-four-storey building, which is being used as a PG facility. Each floor has three rooms, along with a kitchen and a common living area. Officials said one to two students were staying in each room.
The three students residing on the top floor managed to evacuate in time, while occupants on lower floors were also safely moved out before the situation worsened.
Firefighters faced difficulties accessing the building due to narrow lanes, forcing them to park vehicles at a distance and stretch hoses through congested bylanes. With no balconies, teams had to tackle the blaze from the staircase.
The fire was brought under control by 7 pm. The cause is under investigation.
