NOIDA: Her neighbours and parents of victims are waiting for an opportunity to get their hands on her. The media is desperate for a single word from her. Maya, the much sought after maid of Moninder Singh Pandher, an accused in the Nithari murder case, is a scared woman. Forced to stay with relatives, she and her husband Krishna want to return home, but aware of the threats, have no option but to stay put.Fear is writ large on her face as she sits down to relate her story of the house of horrors.
I didnt see anything. I never realised anything. I have nothing to do with this, she blurts.
Denying that she ever washed blood stained clothes or saw anything amiss in the house, she adds: People are making up stories about us. I spent only a few hours at the house each day and nothing happened in front of me. In fact, I was shocked and repulsed when the murders came to light.Maya had been working for Moninder for two years before the grisly murders were discovered. She initially used to wash clothes but after the other maid Nanda had a baby, she was hired to clean the house as well and was paid Rs 900 per month. The only woman to have come out alive from the D-5 residence of Moninder, she was accused by neighbours and families of victims alike of having lured many girls into the house. Her husband had boasted to neighbours of having made a lot of money suddenly. Now, the two are living like fugitives. On how was her interaction with Moninder, she says: He used to be sleeping when I went to clean the house. Sleeping at 1 pm, she is asked, since she worked at the house only between 11am and 1pm, and she quickly says: He must have slept late at night. When he was here he always got up late. She claims she never saw any visitors but Moninders son Karan used to visit the house till a year back, on some occasions when his father wasnt home. Surendra, the servant and the other accused, she says, was never on familiar terms with her. He used to respect sahib (Moninder) but they never shared a master-servant relationship really. He never said much to me either. While I was in the house, he cooked for himself and did the dusting. There was a gardener there too but I dont know his name, she adds. The mother of a victim had accused Maya of knowing about the murders when Maya allegedly told her that her daughters body would be recovered in the drain. While Maya denied the incident, Krishna, rising in his wifes defence, says: She could have said it but it meant nothing. If one body was found she must have thought that the other bodies were there too.
