Driver arrested in Jhandewalan bus accident case
New Delhi: A day after a speeding private bus on the final leg of its Jaipur–Delhi journey overturned near Jhandewalan Temple, leaving two passengers dead and 21 injured, police arrested the driver.The accused, identified as Pankaj Kumar (26), was taken into custody.The accident occurred around 1am on Wednesday when the bus rammed into a park boundary wall, collided with an electric pole, and overturned. Injured passengers alleged that the driver was overspeeding and ignored repeated requests to slow down.“The Rajasthan-registered tourist sleeper bus, with a capacity of around 70, was travelling from Jaipur to Sadar Bazar in Delhi. It initially had about 30 passengers, but some had deboarded earlier, leaving 23 on board at the time of the crash,” police said.All 23 injured passengers were taken to three hospitals across the city. Two of them—Mahesh Kumar (23) from Chhattisgarh and Shehbaj Alam (30) from Uttar Pradesh—succumbed to their injuries during treatment.The driver has been booked under sections of BNS.
