Delhi sees warm day as rain alert continues

NEW DELHI: The Met had issued a yellow alert for rain on Sunday, however, daytime temperatures have spiked and the day turned out to be sunny and warm. A yellow alert for light rain and gusty winds has been extended to today.

A fresh western disturbance began to influence northwest India on Sunday, but largely eluded Delhi-NCR, while the city sweated at 36.2 degree Celsius, four degrees above normal and close to the season high of 36.8 degree Celsius recorded on March 11.

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for light rain and gusty winds for today, with chances of scattered light rain on Tuesday as well. A fresh western disturbance is then likely on April 2, with once again chances of very light rain in Delhi on April 3 and 4, IMD said.

Weather analysts said that while rains were recorded along the Himalayan mountains and parts of northern Punjab, it eluded most of Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and UP.

“We saw gusty winds in Rajasthan too, but in Delhi, it remained mostly clear, leading to the maximum rising quickly,” said Mahesh Palawat, vice president at Skymet.
