The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) House was adjourned for the 13th time this morning until 10 am tomorrow due to a ruckus by the Aam Aadmi Party and Bharatiya Janata Party councillors for the election of the members of the standing committee.There was vandalism in the House, Rekha Gupta, the BJP Mayor candidate, allegedly broke the podium. Amit Nagpal tore the ballot paper and threw the ballot box.The Mayor said that the decision on the action is to be taken against Rekha Gupta and Amit Nagpal in tomorrow's meeting. (ANI)

The MCD House was adjourned for the day on Thursday as ruckus and sloganeering continued over the election of six standing commitee members. The House met at 8.30 am on Thursday but was adjourned for an hour amid sloganeering. The House reconvened at 9.30 am but was adjourned till 10 am on Friday shortly afterwards. Several members of the BJP and AAP had on Wednesday night exchanged blows and hurled plastic bottles at each other in the chamber of the MCD House, on a day the city got its new mayor.

Ruckus after mayor Shelly Oberoi declared mobile phones would be allowed in polling booth

The uproar began when newly elected mayor Shelly Oberoi declared that mobile phones would be allowed in the polling booth. There was immediate protest from the BJP members, who rushed to the well of the House and said it was against the norms to allow mobile phones in this manner. Oberoi’s view that disallowing phones would amount to hurting the dignity of members found no takers.

While the election for the posts of mayor and deputy mayor concluded smoothly on Wednesday, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi saw a brawl breaking out soon after. The councillors even threw bottles and slippers at each other, in the process stalling the elections for the six Standing Committee members till 11.45pm, when the ninth adjournment of the day was announced.
