Delhi girl gets ‘DL 3 SEX’ registration number for scooter, DCW sends notice to transport department

NEW DELHI: A Delhi girl has been assigned a “DL 3 SEX…” registration number for a recently-bought scooter making it difficult for her to use the vehicle as people mock her and she often becomes the subject of taunts.After the girl approached Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), the body issued a notice to transport department.The DCW has sought that the vehicle's registration number should be changed.The DCW has also sought details of all the vehicles which have been given “DL .. SEX” series registration numbers. “The commission was approached by the girl who had bought the scooter recently and was allotted a registration number which contained the term 'SEX'. The girl informed the commission that she was facing harassment due to the registration number, as people use to taunt her and even tease her,” the DCW said in a statement.DCW chief Swati Maliwal said she had asked the transport department to submit details regarding the number of vehicles which have been registered under this series. “It is very unfortunate that people can be so petty and abusive and the girl has to face so much harassment. I have given four days to the transport department to resolve the issue,” Maliwal said.Meanwhile, a transport department official said that 'SEX' is an auto-generated series for vehicle registration. “We have stopped registration on this series. Series are autogenerated by the system. If we receive requests, we can change the registration number on a case-to-case basis,” said the official.
