NEW DELHI: Umar Un Nabi and Dr Muzammil, key figures in the Delhi terror plot, had joined Al-Falah University in close succession during the pandemic — Umar in 2021 and Muzammil six months later, sources involved in the probe told TOI.
Notebooks and diaries recovered during searches over Tuesday and Wednesday from the campus lodgings of the two doctors indicate that they were planning multiple strikes for over two years.
Evidence retrieved from room 13, where Muzammil Ganaie lived, and room 4, Umar’s residence, points to an elaborate terror plot. Investigators said the diaries contained coded references, names, and numbers dated from November 8–12, suggesting preparations for multiple attacks. The word “operation” was repeatedly scribbled throughout the notebooks.
Umar was driving the Hyundai i20 that exploded near the Red Fort metro station on November 10, while Muzammil had rented the two Faridabad lodgings from which authorities recovered nearly 3,000 kg of ammonium nitrate and other explosive materials last week.
The recovered diaries also listed 25–30 names, most of whom were from Jammu & Kashmir, the home state of Umar and Muzammil, or Faridabad and nearby areas. Several Al-Falah University staff, including a hospital compounder, have been detained for questioning.
“Even after Muzammil’s arrest on October 30, it’s unfortunate that the agencies failed to prevent the Delhi blast, which occurred 10 days later,” a source said. In response to the incident, Faridabad police have set up an additional 180 checkpoints across the city.
