NEW DELHI: The high-voltage campaign for the Rajendra Nagar assembly bypoll ended on Tuesday with all three major political parties — AAP, BJP, and Congress — reaching out to voters through roadshows and door-to-door campaigns.

While BJP candidate Rajesh Bhatia held a roadshow with Ravi Kishan and Hansraj Hans, party MPs from Gorakhpur and Northwest Delhi respectively, Congress candidate Prem Lata resorted to meeting voters and convincing them to vote for her in a door-to-door campaign.

Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh asserted that party candidate Durgesh Pathak will defeat BJP's Rajesh Bhatia with a “huge margin” and will record a "historic victory". "During the poll campaign, the mood of the people was very positive and in favour of the AAP. In every ward, there was much appreciation for the work done by the Kejriwal government," he said.

The AAP is banking on the governance of the Kejriwal-led government in Delhi. The chief minister himself participated in four roadshows in the constituency last week.

BJP’s Delhi unit chief Adesh Gupta, who also held a roadshow, claimed that people were fed up with the neglect of Rajendra Nagar by the last two AAP MLAs and have made up their minds to vote for the BJP in this by-election. The BJP is counting on the Punjab background of Bhatia as a factor in its favour. The constituency has a large pocket of Punjabi voters.
