NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party MLA
Amanatullah Khan's remark over the arrest of party councillor
Tahir Hussain triggered a controversy on Saturday. Khan had stated on Twitter: "Tahir Hussain is suffering only because he is a Muslim. Perhaps, the biggest crime in the country today is being a Muslim. It is also possible that in the future, it is proved that Tahir Hussain was behind the violence in Delhi."
Later, in a letter to Saurabh Bharadwaj, who is the chairman of peace and harmony committee of the Delhi assembly, Delhi BJP functionary Praveen Shankar Kapoor claimed that the tweet was "provocative" and he sought action against Khan.
Several other BJP functionaries also reacted strongly to the remark of the AAP MLA.
Hussain is on a 7-day police remand in connection with the NE Delhi violence that erupted on February 23 and continued for three days.
