DCPCR notice to school after false ceiling falls
New Delhi: The
The notice stated that complaints were also received from some parents about alleged harassment for protesting against fee hike.
According to the parent of a student, the plaster of the false ceiling of Class VII B in the school had been peeling off for a long time after heavy rain. However, on September 7, a part of the false ceiling fell in the class. “Thankfully there was no one in class, or it would have caused some serious injury,” said the parent, requesting anonymity.
Principal Suman Kumar claimed that a fragment of the wood on the false ceiling fell in the class late in the evening. “The next morning when we saw it, repairs were started immediately,” she said, adding that the reporting of the incident has been exaggerated. “The repair is still going on and the students have been moved to a new class,” she told TOI.
However, parents said that the school has been treating the matter very lightly and they have been kept in the dark about it. “Parents have asked about validity of fire certificates, but are mostly ignored,” he said.
He added that a PTM was planned on September 15, but was cancelled. “They only called the parents of Class VII B and tried to intimidate them and downplayed the matter,” he claimed.
While Kumar did concede that parents of the class were called separately for an interaction, she claimed the school has been engaging with the parents on all matters.
The DCPCR notice too has asked the school to conduct a structural fitness examination of the school by a team of qualified engineers and submit a report on it by October 15. DoE has also been asked to ensure that the students don’t suffer.
Kumar, however, rubbished claims of any kind of harassment meted out to parents over fee hike.
